Europa Nostra is a pan-European federation of more than 200 non-governmental heritage organisations, which in turn represent millions of citizens throughout our European continent.
This federation is also supported by many national, regional and local authorities, cultural and educational bodies, business enterprises and by many individual members.
Europa Nostra seeks to raise awareness and educate the public at large and to influence the policies and activities of international, national and local institutions and authorities through campaigns, public interventions and debates, scientific research, awards, publications, exhibitions, etc.
Since 1980, Europa Nostra has been running the Heritage Awards Scheme, consisting of Diplomas and Medals for completed outstanding restoration projects of European significance, and Medals of Honour, for dedicated service to heritage protection and conservation by an individual.
The aims of the Europa Nostra Awards are to promote high standards of conservation practice and to stimulate the exchange of knowledge and experience throughout Europe. It achieves this by giving public recognition to outstanding initiatives and best practices by either individuals or organisations, which contribute to the protection and enhancement of cultural heritage in Europe, and so to stimulate further efforts by the power of example.
Europa Nostra is presided over by HRH the Prince Consort of Denmark. Europa Nostra enjoys fruitful relationships with the European Union, the Council of Europe and UNESCO. |
